Servo, in her first iteration, was a calico cat. She was an overweight, feisty, very quick and very lovable cat. I adopted her many years ago when she showed up in my yard one day. I've never turned any living thing away when I thought they might be hungry, and Servo was no exception.
Having no cats in my household at the time, I had no cat food, so I fed Servo a mini-can of tuna that came from a "C-rats" kit. C-rats were the precursor to the modern MRE that military personnel eat on the battlefield. They were sold at the commisary on the base where I worked. They were cheap and they worked great as camping meals. Servo didn't care where they came from ... she just ate frantically. She was instantly my cat. Servo lived a long life and died many years ago, but I loved her and could spend hours telling you about her antics, but it would take up a lot of space.
Servo, as she exists now, is a motorcycle that I named after my cat. I recently bought a 1985 Honda V65 Magna from a fellow here in town. Actually, my first encounter with the huge Magna was in '85 when I took a motorcycle safety course. I had a chance to ride one that belonged to a classmate then, and I have wanted one ever since. I know it was a long wait ... and other bikes have come and gone in terms of capturing my interest ... but I wanted to ride again for a relatively small investment, and the offer of this V65 Magna from the fellow in Indy was perfectly timed.
V65 Magnas have a reputation for having huge amounts of power and being very fast. Certainly there are more powerful machines today, as technology has obviously improved, but in it's day, the Magna was the undisputed king of powerful motorcycles. Servo is not in perfect shape, but for her age, she is in VERY good condition. Everything works as it should, she is very fast, and there are some custom touches that the previous owner did that work very well. I am very fortunate that the previous owner of this motorcycle was very meticulous and cared very much about the bike when he owned it. Usually, performance machines, like Servo ... have been run very hard, and it is difficult to find one that has been treated with maturity. Again, I lucked out.
I will share on this blog my rides and getaways as well as maintenance stuff as I become more familiar with the bike. If you enjoy this sorta stuff, please stick around and add your comments whenever and wherever you like.
Thanks!
